Outsider public art

The terms outsider art or art brut refer to art produced by persons without artistic training and free from any contact with the art system. Many artists considered outsider are mentally disabled persons.

Outsider artists such as Tsang Tsou Choi or Alain Rault have developed excellent artistic productions in public space. None of them has or has ever intended to have any link with the urban art scene. Like the rest of outsider artists, they act to satisfy a solitary, personal impulse.

Although the work of these artists fits into the definition of postgraffiti, their distinct characteristics lead us to understand their work as that of outsider public artists.
